Description
2 Hepburn Gardens in St Andrews is an early 19th century single-storey, symmetrical three-bay former toll-house. It features a later narrow single-bay addition to the left and a harled extension at the rear. The building is located at the eastern end of Hepburn Gardens and is constructed from squared and coursed whinstone rubble with sandstone margins on the principal street elevation, while the other elevations are made of rubble. The central entrance consists of a two-bay timber door, and there is a bipartite window with a timber mullion and half-timbering on the eastern gable.
The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case with horns, and the roof is covered with graded grey slates. Gable end stacks with cans and ashlar-coped skews are present, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the layout is simple, with two principal rooms flanking the entrance hall. The narrow harled bay to the left has boarded timber. The northern boundary features a low coped stone section of wall.
