Description
Wester Cartmore is a mid-19th century farmhouse that incorporates a marriage stone dated 1680, which is set into the lintel of a door at the rear. The building is a single storey with an attic and features three bays. It is constructed from squared rubble with contrasting sandstone tooled ashlar dressings and has flush long and short quoins.
The south elevation has an advanced gabled porch at the center, which contains a modern flush door and a rectangular fanlight above. There is a ball finial at the gablehead, with a window in each of the flanking bays. The west elevation is rendered. The north elevation was not fully visible in 1996 but includes a projection at the rear with a boarded door and a 2-pane fanlight above. To the left of the west return, there is a marriage stone as a lintel, flanked by a window.
The farmhouse features 12-pane and 4-pane timber sash and case windows. It has a graded slate roof with gabled dormers in the outer bays on the south elevation and to the left of the west return on the north elevation. There are wallhead stacks on the east and west sides, as well as on the projection to the north. The interior was not seen in 1996.
