Description
The 1908 extension of the University Library in South Street, St Andrews, was designed by architect Sir Robert Lorimer in a Renaissance style. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a projecting front. At the first floor, there are Ionic pilasters with sculptures on coupled shafts, reminiscent of the New Building at Pembroke College, Cambridge. The top of the building is adorned with a balustrade. There have been alterations and additions made by architect J Donald Mills, as well as later modifications, including a mansard roof, by architects Walker & Pride.
