Description

55 Craigkennochie Terrace in Burntisland is a later 19th century house with an early extension. This two-storey, three-bay T-plan building features finialled window heads that break the eaves. The exterior is made of stugged ashlar and coursed rubble, with polished ashlar surrounds, raised long and short quoins, an eaves course, architraved windows, and stone mullions.

On the south elevation, the entrance features a concave moulded doorcase with a deep-set door and a plate glass fanlight at the center. To the right is a slightly advanced corniced bipartite window, while to the left is a flat-roofed canted window with a cornice and blocking course. The center bay has a window on moulded brackets with painted margins and a semicircular moulding at the apex, below a segmental pediment with a semicircular apex finial and moulded shoulders. The tympanum displays quatrefoil decoration, and flanking windows have painted margins and cushion-finialled pediments with shield decoration in the tympanum.

The east elevation has two bays, with a window to the outer right at ground level and flat-roofed canted windows with cornice and blocking course to the left. The first floor features regular fenestration.

The north elevation includes a gabled projecting wing at the center, with a window to the right on both the ground and first floors, and a lean-to extension on the return to the right with a window above.

The windows are timber sash and case with 4-, 12-, and plate glass glazing. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped ashlar gablehead stacks with moulded cans, as well as ashlar coped skews, skewputts, and finials.

The property is enclosed by low saddleback coped rubble boundary walls to the south and semi-circular-coped rubble boundary walls to the east and north.
