Description

Tron House is an 18th-century, two-storey house with a rectangular plan, located in Sandhaven, Culross. It features an attached two-storey rectangular-plan house at the rear, creating a T-shaped layout. The exterior is finished with cream harling and has sandstone ashlar surrounds for the windows and doors.

The west elevation, which is the principal facade, has a near-central door with a corniced doorway and a small window above. To the left on the first floor is another small window. There is a bipartite window on the ground floor to the left of the door, with a corresponding first-floor window above it at the eaves. The northern house has an advanced gable with a plain design and a stop-chamfered right quoin at the first floor. There is a wide door on the right return, with a National Trust for Scotland plaque above it, and a window to the right that is slightly truncated by the southern house. A central first-floor window is located at the eaves.

On the north elevation, there is a small ground floor window to the left and two windows to the right, along with two first-floor windows at the eaves. A single-storey lean-to garage is positioned to the far left, and there is a spur stone at the right quoin.

The east elevation is partially visible, showing the garage advanced to the right with two timber boarded garage doors. The house beyond has a plain gable visible at the first floor. The southern house is set back to the left, with a ground floor window to the right and a first-floor window above to the left. A lean-to porch is located to the left, featuring a window and a door in the right return. The Town House is attached to the far left.

The south elevation features the gable of the southern house facing Sandhaven, with two ground floor windows (the former door is to the left) and two first-floor windows. There is a recess for a blocked small square attic window to the left.

The glazing is varied, predominantly consisting of two and four-pane timber sash and case windows with horns. The entrance door on the west is timber panelled, while the southern elevation has a boarded timber door. The roofs are pitched and covered with clay pantiles, featuring a crowstepped gable on both the southern and eastern gables of the northern house. The southern wing has corniced gable apex stacks, while the northern house has coped gable apex stacks.

The interior was not seen during the inspection in 2001.
