1-2 Pilmour Links, St Andrews

1-2 Pilmour Links in St Andrews is a two-storey shop with domestic accommodation above, situated on a prominent corner site. The building dates from the earlier and later 19th century, with alterations made in the early 20th century, particularly in 1935 and later. It features squared rubble construction with raised quoins and large dressed ashlar blocks, along with a base course and a cornice at the ground floor.

The east elevation, facing Golf Place, consists of two houses that have been converted into one shop. The ground floor has timber-framed shop windows with full-width top-lights and an in-canted door at the center of the right block, along with two traditionally lettered timber fascias. The first floor has two bays to the left of center, each with pedimented dormer windows that break the eaves. The left dormer has a prominent shouldered stack adjoining to the right, while there are three windows in the bays to the right of center.

The south elevation, facing Pilmour Links, features a central bay with steps leading up to a deep-set, six-panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight. Above, there is a first-floor window that breaks the eaves into a piended dormer roof. The bay to the right of center has an in-canted shop door and flanking display windows with multi-pane top-lights below a fascia, along with incised arrowhead details on the margins and a canted outer right angle that is corbelled to square at the first floor. To the left, there is a slightly recessed bay with another shop window and fascia below the oriel window, and a small window to the right at the first floor. The windows throughout the building feature four-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case frames.

The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with some cans and coped skews, as well as cast-iron downpipes and decorative rainwater hoppers. Inside, Kinloch Cottage has a decorative cast-iron stair and a timber fire surround.
