Description
16-18 Douglas Street in Dunfermline is a two-storey, four-bay terraced commercial building dating from 1901, with some alterations to the ground floor. The principal (west) elevation features a glazed shop frontage on both storeys. The first floor is adorned with cast-iron arcading and has a bracketed eaves cornice.
On the west elevation, there are two late 20th century glazed shopfronts at the ground floor, each with a central glazed door. Above, the original fascia board has a dentilled and gableted cornice, flanked by gableted brackets. The first floor showcases glazed semicircular-arched arcading, divided into four pairs of arches, one for each bay. Each arch has a keyblock and is supported by slender Corinthianesque columns with cast-iron spandrels, along with dividing mullions for each bay.
The principal elevation also features fixed plate glass windows. The roof is piended and platformed, covered with grey slate. The interior was not inspected in 1998.
