Description
25 High Street in Dunfermline is a terraced shop premises that was remodeled around 1900 from an earlier structure. It is two stories high and has two bays. The shopfront on the principal (north) elevation is highly glazed and remains unaltered, although the ground floor may have been updated slightly later. The upper floor features cast-iron arcading, and the principal elevation is finished in painted stone, with a base course and a bracketed eaves cornice.
On the north elevation, there is a recessed entrance located to the left of center, featuring a replacement two-leaf glazed timber door with a dentilled lintel and a rectangular fanlight above. A mosaic decorates the step in front of the entrance. Large windows flank the entrance, each with a separately glazed band across the top. Above, a fascia board with a dentilled cornice is present, along with a miniature pediment at the center and flanking outer brackets, each topped with a small pediment. The upper bays are divided into a glazed cast-iron framed triple arcade, featuring round arches with decorative keystones, supported by slender columns with plain capitals.
The principal elevation has large fixed panes, and the building is topped with a grey slate roof that has a crow-stepped skew and a harled ridge stack to the west. The interior of the ground floor shop does not retain any original fittings.
