Description
The Se Block and Kennels, Stables at Fernie Castle is an early 19th-century structure featuring two classical courts connected by a quadrant linking wall. The south-east court has been converted into cottages and consists of a U-shaped single-storey building made of rubble with slated roofs. It has a pair of pedimented gables at the front, made of ashlar, and overarched rectangular openings. This court is linked by a coursed rubble wall that includes central squared corniced gate-piers. The rear range of this court features a pend opposite the gateway and a segmentally arched cart-shed.
The north-west block is similar to the south-east block but consists of only two parallel ranges. The link-walls on either side of the court also have central gate-piers. The left block has been heightened behind the gable, while the right block remains unaltered, featuring three segmental-arched cart-sheds and a dummy window in the gable.
