Description

Cunnoquhie House is a late 18th or early 19th century symmetrical two-storey classical mansion with a low two-storey wing extending to the west. The house underwent alterations by John Watherston and Sons of Edinburgh around 1892. It is constructed of ashlar stone.

The east entrance elevation features three bays, with a central door flanked by sidelights and a segmental fanlight, all set behind a semi-circular portico supported by Ionic columns. The flanking windows have aprons and are recessed in rectangular panels. There is a cill course at the first floor with a central tripartite window, a cornice, and a parapet that is panelled with an urn over the central bay and balustraded over the outer bays. The roof has a single later dormer, two symmetrically placed stacks, and a shallow, piended slate roof.

The south elevation of the house has four bays, with ground floor windows that include aprons and a cill course at the first floor. The symmetrical west wing, which may incorporate parts of an 18th century building, has five bays with additional narrow bay linking to the house, featuring single door or window openings and tripartites in the central bay. A Tuscan colonnade supports a first-floor arcaded balustrade, and there is a single dormer, symmetrically placed stacks, and a slate roof.

To the west, there is a low single-storey three-bay service block linked by a screen wall to an outbuilding and a stable block beyond. The interior has been partly remodelled around 1892, featuring an elliptical entrance hall and a cupola over the stairs. It includes panelled doors in moulded architraves and a re-used 18th century chimneypiece.
