Description
Circa 1840, Balmalcolm Cottage is a single-storey house with a 20th-century addition to the north. The house is harled with chamfered ashlar margins and a base course. The south elevation has three bays. The central bay is semi-octagonal, featuring a panelled door with a fanlight above and windows with a lying-pane glazing pattern. Deeply overhanging eaves are supported by rustic columns. The outer bays have bipartites with coped lintels. Chamfered angles curve to square below the eaves. The west elevation also has three bays, with a bowed central bay containing a tripartite window, and 8-pane sash windows in the outer bays. A modern glazed porch is present on the east elevation.
Other features include deeply projecting eaves, symmetrically placed corniced stacks, and a piended slate roof. To the north are two parallel single-storey service blocks, also harled, linked by a screen wall to form a courtyard. The east block has a segmental-headed cart opening, a door, and an altered garage opening to the courtyard, while the west block has a door and a window. The property is set within a circular garden. The statutory address is Balmalcolm Village White Croft (formerly Balmalcolm Cottage).
