Description
This is an early 19th-century warehouse complex, originally built as a pair of single-storey feeding byres, situated on a slope facing east. The building is constructed of rubble with long and short quoins and has a large catslide pantiled roof.
The southern roofline is stepped; a projecting overhang is supported by timber posts on the left side, and there is a derelict opening roughly in the centre. A large timber door is located to the west, marked "Duty Free Warehouse No 8," and a door with cast-iron external access stairs is on the east side, both serving the northern range.
The Long Byre, which comprises the original two feeding byres, predates Grange Cottage and Grange Flats. Historic records indicate an unexecuted planning consent existed in 1994 for its demolition. Other structures at the Grange Distillery site, including the Old Office House, a separate warehouse, Grange Flats, Grange Distillery Cottage and the main gateway, are listed separately. An undated plan of the Grange Distillery is held by the owner of the Old Office House.
