Description
The Memorial Fountain in Zetland Park was designed and erected in 1882. Made of cast iron by the Coalbrookdale Foundry in Shropshire, the fountain underwent alterations around 1923 when it was relocated within the public park, with further changes made after the 1930s. The fountain features a large circular cast iron basin set on a four-course, ashlar masonry sandstone base. It includes two outer cast iron side bowls for drinking water, which are adorned with fretted arched panels, and a central pedestal surrounded by four kneeling cast iron winged angels. This pedestal supports a shallow, open bowl with a beaded rim and eight water spouts.
