Description
The outbuildings at Saltoun Mill date from the late 18th century and consist of a two-storey and attic, three-bay millhouse. The structure is built of rubble with ashlar dressings and has some harl pointing, while the side elevation is harled. A relieving arch is positioned over the central doorway of the mill, which is flanked by windows, with an additional window in each bay on the first floor. A gabled porch was added to the rear elevation around 1800, featuring a curved curtain wall attached to it, and a later sundial was placed at the apex. The two-bay side elevations have windows in each bay on one side, while the other side has a ground floor window and two attic windows. The sash and case windows display a 12-pane glazing pattern, and the roof is covered with large grey slates. The building features pronounced skews and end stacks.
The outbuildings have been converted for residential use and are constructed of rubble with pantile roofs, arranged in an L-plan with cart openings that are currently glazed. The retaining walls are made of rubble with rubble coping, providing protection for the millhouse, Fletcher Cottage, and former outbuildings from West Saltoun Barley Mill.
