4 New Row, East Fortune Hospital

The building comprises a row of six, two-storey cottages dating to circa 1882. They are likely contemporary with the nearby steading at East Fortune Hospital, which is listed separately. The cottages are characterized by an uneven three-bay design and a central pend. They are constructed of squared and coursed stugged ashlar with Jacobethan detailing, including hoodmoulds over the ground floor openings. Above each off-centre entrance door is a three-pane strip fanlight, with windows flanking at ground level. Smaller windows at the first floor break the eaves within gabled dormerheads; a continuous eaves gutter runs along the top. The rear elevation is harled, with some minor additions.

The windows are sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered in grey slates with straight skews and beak skewputts. Ashlar coped gable end and ridge stacks are present, with a paired stack above the pend. A low rubble retaining wall encloses the front garden.
