6 New Row, East Fortune Hospital

This is a row of six two-story cottages, built around 1882. They are likely contemporary with the nearby steading at East Fortune Hospital, which is separately listed. The cottages were designed in a Jacobethan style, with details like hoodmolds over the ground floor openings. They are constructed from squared and coursed stugged ashlar, and the rear is harled.

The cottages feature three bays, with a central pend (passage) running through. The front has three-pane strip fanlights above the off-centre doors, and windows are positioned on either side at ground level. Smaller windows in gabled dormerheads break the eaves at the first floor level. A continuous eaves gutter runs along the top.

Inside, the windows are sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring straight skews with beak skewputts. Ashlar coped gable end and ridge stacks are present, with paired stacks over the pend. A low rubble retaining wall defines the front garden. The statutory address is 1-6 New Row, East Fortune.
