5 New Row, East Fortune Hospital

This is a row of six two-storey cottages, built around 1882. They are likely contemporary with the nearby East Fortune steading, which is separately listed. The cottages are located at 1-6 New Row, East Fortune. The facades are constructed of squared and coursed, stugged ashlar stone, exhibiting Jacobethan detailing, including hood moulds above the ground floor openings. Each cottage has three bays, with a central pend (passage) running through the middle. The ground floor features three-pane strip fanlights above off-centre doors, with windows on either side. The first floor windows are smaller and are set within gabled dormerheads that break the eaves; a continuous eaves gutter runs along the tops of the cottages. The rear of the buildings are harled, and there are some minor additions.

The windows are sash and case, with plate glass. The roof is covered in grey slates with straight skews finished with beak skewputts. Ashlar coped gable end and ridge stacks are present, with paired stacks located above the pend. A low rubble retaining wall borders the front garden.
