Description
Gardener's Cottage, located at Tyninghame House, was likely built by Thomas Hannan around 1835, expanding on an earlier cottage. The structure is made of pink rubble with ashlar dressings and features chamfered arrises around the openings. It has crowstepped gables.
The north-south arm of the cottage is a single storey with three bays, featuring a doorway on the east side flanked by windows, and a window on the west side. The east-west arm is two storeys high at the south end, with ground and first-floor windows on both the east and west gables.
There is a gabled porch with a depressed arch opening located in the re-entrant angle on the west side, although the doorway has been altered to a window. A late 19th-century brick outbuilding is attached to the north gable. The cottage has small-pane and horizontal-pane glazing in its casement windows, beak skewputts, and one finial. The roof is slate, and a gabled timber dormer has been added to the west pitch of the single-storey cottage.
