Description

Earlier to mid 19th century. Single storey L-plan former

gardeners cottage, adjoining piend roofed stables and with

piend roofed extension set in re-entrant angle to E. Squared

and snecked rubble sandstone with raised ashlar dressings.

S ELEVATION: symmetrical, 3-bay. Raised, gabled bay at

centre with gablet coped skew and consoled skewputts

and blind slit in gable head; panelled door with

decorative strip fanlight.

W ELEVATION: 4 bays to cottage, 2 of the S wing with

ground floor windows, and blind slit in gable head, and 2

to recessed N wing, with lower ridge line and 2 windows.

Stables to outer left with 2 stable doors at centre,

flanked by windows.

E ELEVATION: 2 windows to gable of S wing, detailed as

above, with smaller window flanking to right and 2 more

to the piend roofed projection to right.

12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows.

Paired polygonal stacks on pedestals at gable ends. Slate

roof to cottage and piend roofed extension and pantiles

with slate eaves easing course to stable building at rear.

Gabled skews with consoled skewputts to cottage. Rubble

walled cottage garden to E.
