Gardeners Cottage, Archerfield

Gardeners Cottage at Archerfield is an earlier to mid 19th century single-storey L-plan former gardener's cottage. It is adjacent to piend roofed stables and features a piend roofed extension set in the re-entrant angle to the east. The building is constructed from squared and snecked rubble sandstone with raised ashlar dressings.

The south elevation is symmetrical with three bays. At the center is a raised gabled bay that has a gablet with a coped skew and consoled skewputts, along with a blind slit in the gable head. There is a panelled door with a decorative strip fanlight.

The west elevation consists of four bays for the cottage, with two bays for the south wing that include ground floor windows and a blind slit in the gable head. The recessed north wing has a lower ridge line and two windows. The stables are located to the outer left, featuring two stable doors at the center flanked by windows.

On the east elevation, there are two windows in the gable of the south wing, detailed as previously described, along with a smaller window to the right and two additional windows in the piend roofed projection to the right. The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern.

The cottage features paired polygonal stacks on pedestals at the gable ends. The roof of the cottage and the piend roofed extension is slate, while the stable building at the rear has pantiles with a slate easing course. The gabled skews of the cottage are adorned with consoled skewputts. Additionally, there is a rubble-walled cottage garden to the east.
