North Belton Cottages No. 5, North Belton

North Belton Cottages No. 1, located in North Belton, date from the later to late 19th century. They consist of three identical pairs of single-storey, three-bay cottages arranged in a U-plan. The cottages are built from squared and snecked red rubble sandstone, featuring stugged ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises.

The entrance elevations have a doorway at the center of each three-bay cottage, which is topped by a gabled porch made of decorative timber barge boarding, rails, a kingpost, and columns. Each porch includes a boarded door with a strip fanlight, and they are flanked by bipartite windows.

On the rear elevation, there are cat-slide roofs over the projecting bays at the center of the paired cottages, which feature four windows. Narrow lights flank the re-entrants, with single windows in the outer bays.

The blank end gables have plate glass sash and case windows on the entrance elevations, while the rear features four-pane and horizontal pane glazing. Timber eaves brackets support the overhanging eaves, and the cottages have grey slate roofs with coping at the center and gable end ridge stacks. Some decorative gutter fixtures have been retained.
