Description
The Dovecot at Belton House is an early 19th-century, two-chamber lectern dovecot. It is constructed of random rubble, which was formerly harled, and features droved ashlar dressings and a string course along the gables. There is a doorway on the south side. The structure has crow-stepped gables and a corrugated iron roof, which is swept and has a flight-hole located at the midpoint of the pitch. Originally, both chambers were linked with nesting boxes; however, the western chamber has been converted to house an acetylene gas plant that powered Belton House. The eastern chamber contains 560 nest boxes.
