Description

The Manse is a house dating to circa 1795, originally a 2-storey, 3-bay building. A single-storey and attic service wing, and a stable range, were later added. The main house is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and a cornice.

The west-facing elevation features a doorway at the centre, with a panelled door and decorative fanlight above. A window sits above the door, with further windows in the flanking bays at each floor. A stone mullioned bipartite window is a later addition to the right.

The east-facing elevation has a stair window at the centre, with a doorway directly below. Windows are present at each floor in the flanking bays, with the ground-floor window to the left elongated. Two small windows feature on the service wing addition to the left, which has a later 19th-century piend-roofed, canted dormer.

The stables are a gabled range running east to west, attached to the service wing and likely of similar date. They include a doorway to the west end and south side, with three windows. A hayloft is located above, incorporating a gabled dormerhead window to the south and an oculus to the east at the apex.

Further stables, with a hearse house, are situated within the graveyard to the south, displaying two doorways to the north and carriage doors to the west. A piend roof of pantiles covers this range.

The windows are predominantly sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered in grey slates, and ashlar end stacks are present. Wrought-iron railings are found to the west, while rubble coped garden walls are along the steep slope to the east. The property was restored in 1988 by the Nicholas Goves-Raines partnership.
