Description

The Old Bridge in Musselburgh is an early 16th century structure that was repaired in 1597. It features three segmental arches, with two spanning the river and one that is out of alignment, likely added during the 1597 repairs, all adorned with drip-stones and constructed from coursed rubble. The bridge has V-plan cut waters with refuges over the southern pair of arches. At each end, there is a stepped approach, with the step at the north end set within a splayed and battered bridgehead.
