Lodge, Bowerhouse

Bowerhouse Lodge is a single-storey gabled gate lodge built around 1840, featuring later extensions. It is constructed of red Bourhouse ashlar sandstone, partly harled, with base and string courses, and raised margins with chamfered arrises. The gableheads have blank square panels.

The entrance elevation has three gabled bays, with a central doorway that has a panelled door beneath a canopied gable. To the right is a canted window that is splayed to a square at the gablehead. The outer left bay contains a stone mullioned bipartite window.

On the northeast elevation, there is a canted bay detailed similarly to the entrance elevation. The southeast elevation features a sympathetic gabled extension, while various additions are present on the west side.

The lodge has plate glass sash and case windows, some of which have horizontal panes. The roof is covered with large grey slates, and there are polygonal ashlar stacks with moulded coping. Decorative timber barge boards with pendants and wrought-iron finials are present, although some are missing.

The gatepiers are polygonal ashlar with pyramid caps, and there are coped ashlar parapets topped with 'Chinese' timber fences. Rubble boundary walls enclose the policies of the main house and are joined at the northwest angle.
