Description
The early 17th century walled garden is located on the east side of Pinkie House in Musselburgh. It is enclosed by a high sandstone rubble wall topped with ridged coping. A semi-octagonal garden house projects from the outer side of the east wall, featuring a gable with a finial facing the garden. The garden house has an architraved doorway adorned with a sculptured cartouche that includes a rectangular inscription panel set in colonnettes with sculptured capitals. There are Renaissance gateways in the east and north walls, both architraved and corniced. The gateway on the east wall features a Jacobean pediment with an obelisk and inscriptions indicating the ages of Seton, 57, on the inside and his wife, 21, on the outer face. Additionally, an obelisk sundial is situated on the north wall, resting on a corniced pedestal block with a moulded base.
