Description
Newmains Cartshed and Gallery is a later 19th-century building that features a 5-bay cartshed, which was raised from an earlier single-storey structure made of rubble. It is situated on sloping ground. The building is constructed from squared and snecked red rubble sandstone, with dressed ashlar detailing. The east elevation has five segmental cart arches, each with regular rectangular hayloft windows above. The outer left arch has boarded doors. The west elevation also has hayloft windows, with evidence of a former wall visible below. There is a forestair leading to the hayloft door on the south gable end. The north gable end shows evidence of a former gable and has a wallhead stack. The hayloft has a boarded floor, and the south arch is boarded off from the others. The roof is covered with purple slates and features skylights, along with coped skews.
