Cart Shed, Steading, Stoneypath

The Cart Shed at Stoneypath is an irregular steading that has developed over three building periods and is divided into two sections by a cast-iron columned haybarn. The structure is built of rubble with ashlar dressings and features some cast-iron wide lintels. Most of the roofs are slated, although some pantiles are still present. The steading includes two cattle courts.

The northwest range consists of two blocks that run parallel to the drive. It features an earlier cartshed with three segmental cart arches to the west, and a mid-19th century six-bay cart and granary to the north. The openings in the granary have been widened later, with one serving as a pend to the cattle court. There is a forestair leading to the hayloft in the penultimate bay to the west, along with a farm office and hen house located in the northeast flanking wing.

The southeast range is a long structure designed for grain handling, taking advantage of the sloping ground. It includes a wheel house to the south and a pantiled rubble lean-to that encloses a cast-iron overshot wheel dating from around 1870, which features sheet-iron buckets made by M and J Dods of Morham. At the center of this range is a threshing mill.
