Description

The building is a two-storey Arts and Crafts lodge designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1904, featuring a cruciform plan and a rounded stair and entrance tower to the north. It is constructed from mannered sandstone rubble with droved ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises.

On the northeast elevation, the central tower sweeps into the main roof, with a transomed stair window located under the eaves of the bell-cast roof. To the left side of the tower, there is a doorway with a four-centre arch set in an ashlar panel, while a small four-centred light is positioned to the right. A single light is found to the right of the north wing.

The southeast elevation features a bell-cast gable on the south wing, which has outbuildings extending southward. The ridge and eaves of the south wing are lower, complementing the bell-cast roof.

The east elevation showcases an advanced gable on the north wing with swept eaves and bipartite lights to the right. The northeast angle is chamfered and includes a single light, which is corbelled to a square above.

The west elevation mirrors the advanced gabled bay of the east elevation on the left side. The lodge has lead-pane glazing in its casement windows, while blind slits with carved details are present in the gableheads on the east and west sides. The roofs are covered with slate, and there is moulded coping on the square stack at the ridge intersection.

The gatepiers are rectangular, built from squared rubble with ashlar dressings and moulded coping. The gates are made of waved timber.
