Description
Sir Robert Lorimer, 1904. 2-storey rectangular plan,
Cotswold style small scale mansion. Mannered sandstone
rubble; ashlar dressings and chamfered margins. Stone
mullions.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: moulded semi-circular archway
with impose to recessed porch off-centre to right with
tripartite above. Irregular openings to right, including
transomed bipartite and tripartite. Gabled bay
intercepted by wallhead stack to right and 2 diamond
stacks above. Decorative carved lintel to gablehead
light. 2 advanced gabled bays left of centre, embracing
canted, 4-sided, full-height Elizabethan hall window.
Bipartite windows to gabled bays with Elizabethan stair
window to left gable. Bipartites to W side of stair
window bay. Recessed gabled bay to outer left with
paired tripartites at ground and 3-light above.
N (ROAD) ELEVATION: 3 advanced bays at centre; arched
doorway with raised voussoirs and short flight of steps in
centre bay. Large canted ground floor window to gabled
bay left of centre with tripartite lights, 4-light at 1st
floor and attic bipartite. Crenellated parapet above
centre and to 2 bays right of centre. Chamfered right
angle with bipartites to advanced bays; tripartites in
flanking, recessed bays. Full-height canted outer right
gable with bipartites. Paired bipartites at ground in
outer left gabled bay with 1st floor tripartite.
W ELEVATION: raised, battered stack at centre with
2 diamond stacks above. Decorative lintel to single light
at ground to left; bipartite at 1st floor to right.
E ELEVATION: service court at ground with centre archway
detailed as N elevation, 2 gabled bays behind, left bay
advanced.
Lead-pane glazing to casement windows with some plate
glass below transoms. Decorative lead gutter heads
retained. Gabletted coping and carved skewputts to
gable heads to W end. Swept eaves to 2 Arts and Crafts
style gable heads at E end of N and S elevations. Slate
roof. Moulded coping to stacks.
INTERIOR: retains very high quality work throughout
including panelling, chimneypieces. Galleried hall. Vine
detail to plasterwork ceilings.
Rubble retaining wall.
