Description
The Band Hall on Mair's Road in Darvel is a single-storey building constructed around 1900, primarily made of red brick with some harled sections. The gabled front features a central round-headed doorway, which has a stucco margin around the head and is flanked by pilasters. The entrance includes a two-leaf, six-panel door topped with a semi-circular fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there are single round-headed windows with Georgian cast iron window frames, set within a cream-harled panel that ends in pilasters. The upper part of the gable is designed as a pediment, with brick bands at the sides and base, one course of which is set diagonally. A terracotta monogram panel is located in the tympanum, along with a cast iron terminal. The sides of the building are blind and divided into three bays by pilasters, featuring an eaves band with a diagonal brick course. The brick base course steps down to the rear at the sides. The roof is slated and includes three large skylights on each side, as well as the stumps of two ventilators along the ridge.
