Nursery, Ranoldcoup Road, Darvel

The building is a single-storey school constructed in 1863, designed by architect William Railton. It features a classical show front made of pink sandstone with red sandstone dressings. The central gable has a three-light round-headed window with cast-iron geometric lights and a stone setting for a clock face, which has been removed. The gable is adorned with dentilled skews and an anthemion at the top.

Flanking the central section are porches supported by Roman-Doric columns in antis, each topped with pediments that feature anthemia and acroteria. The porches have round-headed doorways; the left one is domestic, while the right has double doors, both equipped with fanlights. A later addition to the north is not included in the listing.

The original school building consists of six bays, constructed of snecked rubble, with a four-bay extension in a matching style but made from darker stone. The side openings are segment-headed, with paired openings on the south front located in the second bay from the west of the original building and in the first bay of the extension.

The front boundary wall is made of sandstone ashlar with a rounded cope. The gate and terminal piers are made of rustic ashlar, featuring a base course and heavy gableted copes with acroteria, along with two-leaf modern mild steel gates.
