Description
The building is a single storey public institute located on Institute Avenue in Catrine, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. It features snecked and stugged ashlar with polished dressings. A notable aspect is the semi-octagonal corner that includes an open columned logia, which supports a balustrade. The structure has a two-stage octagonal tower, with the second stage being corbelled and clocks placed on alternate faces. The roof is adorned with a crenellated parapet and small corbelled angle turrets.
To the south, there is a wing that consists of three unequal bays, highlighted by a prominent projecting canted window in the central gabled bay. The outer bay features a conical roofed drum at the angle. The east elevation includes single lights for the library, and all gables are crowstepped. The building is topped with a slate roof that has red ridge tiles.
