Covenanters Hotel, 111- 123 Main Street, Newmilns

The Covenanters Hotel, located at 111-123 Main Street in Newmilns, is a building dated 1869 on the wallhead stack, although it may have been constructed several decades earlier. This two-storey and attic structure features a traditional street block design with five bays, arranged in a near symmetrical pattern of two bays on one side and three on the other. The building has been altered with a dummy "ashlar" lining at the ground floor and applied timber framing at the first floor, but the basic structure underneath remains unaffected, clearly showing its original form.

The entrance bay includes a pilastered doorcase with a modern door and the original fanlight above. The first floor has 12-pane glazing. There are three piended canted dormers from the 19th century, and the roof is covered with slate, although the end stacks have been removed. The left-hand gable is white-plastered and timber framed, and there have been some additions and alterations at the rear of the building.
