Town Hall And Library, 10-12 West Main Street, Darvel

The Town Hall and Library, located at 10-12 West Main Street in Darvel, is a building from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is two stories high and features seven bays made of red sandstone. The ground floor has a symmetrical design with round-headed entrances located in the center and at the end bays, all adorned with simple moulded heads. The remaining bays contain single windows that have segment heads and keystones.

There is a base course, a cill course, and a cornice that separates the ground floor from the first floor. The bays are divided by paired pilasters that rest on deep panelled bases. The balcony, which appears to have been originally balustraded, now has its space for balusters filled in and rendered with cement. The first floor is tall and features single transomed windows positioned high in the end bays.

The central five bays all have tripartite windows with mullions and double transoms, separated by paired pilasters. A cill course runs below the central windows and pilasters, except where it is interrupted by the balcony. The building has a plain frieze that slightly advances over the central bays, topped with a heavy cornice. Above the central five bays, there is a balustrade with dies separating the bays. The front part of the roof is piended, covering only the central bays, and is slated with a central iron ventilator.
