Description
32 Bingham Terrace in Dundee is a pair of symmetrical, two-storey semi-detached villas designed by Edward Tough (Hutton and Tough) in 1909. The buildings feature harled brick and expanded metal lath, with timber turrets and verandahs set on a rock-faced rubble-built base.
Each villa has inner gabled bays with triple light windows and octagonal angle towers that contain five timber mullioned lights. The roofs are swept and topped with Art Nouveau finials. There are three-bay timber verandahs that link the villas, with recessed doors at the ground floor.
On the side elevations, there are large stair windows, some of which have painted glass. The rear features projecting five-light mullioned and transomed bays that are set back. The roofs are covered with slate and have tiled ridges, along with ridge stacks. The original windows had single-pane lower cases and four and six-pane upper cases, although alterations have been made to pivot and change the upper cases at number 34. The stair windows have an unusual glazing pattern. The property is complemented by rubble-built retaining walls, which include some original mild steel railings and gates.
