Description
56 and 58 Arbroath Road in Dundee is a four-storey, four-bay tenement building constructed around 1865-1870, featuring back platties. The structure is made of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings.
The front elevation remains largely unaltered at the ground floor, which includes three doors and one small shop window set beneath a broad band course. The upper floors are arranged in a four-bay layout with widely spaced bays on the sides, and there are cill courses on the second and third floors.
At the rear, there is a central semicircular stair tower topped with a semi-conical slate roof and curved stair windows. The flats have flagstone platties and wrought-iron railings. The gable end has two bays, with the left bay being blind except at the ground level. The end stack has been rebuilt in brick, while the ridge and west stack are made of stone. The roof is covered with slate, and the windows are sash and case, featuring a four-pane glazing pattern at the front and a twelve-pane pattern at the rear. Additionally, there is a rubble-built boundary wall surrounding the property.
