Description

Alexander Johnston, 1895. Curved 4-storey, 7-bay tenement,

the fulcrum of a larger model tenement development. Squared

and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. Ground floor

shopfronts with slim pseudo-Ionic pilasters. Upper floor

windows margined, corniced at 1st, continuous cill courses

at 2nd and 3rd.

Elevation to street: broad 4-bay curve, outer bays

bipartite. Central crow-stepped gable with hoodmoulded

attic light and ball finial, flanked by swept-roofed

lead-capped bartizans. Canted oriels to Albert Street and

Arthurstone terrace rise from 1st and 3rd floors with

conical turrets. Single bipartite bay to right of oriel at

Arthurstone Terrace. Wallhead stack to right or oriel at

Albert Street.

Slate roof with wrought-iron finials to turrets. Ridge

stacks. Windows sash and case, 2-pane glazing pattern.
