Description
Forebank Dyeworks, located at 88 Victoria Road in Dundee, was designed by Alexander Johnston in 1875 and raised by one storey in 1895. This three-storey and attic building features twelve bays and is constructed of snecked rubble with polished margins. The rounded angles are corbelled to square at the first floor. An arched and keyblocked door at the southwest angle is inscribed with "Forebank Dye Works." The two arched loading doors on the ground floor have been altered to windows. There is a main cornice below the attic level windows, which were added in 1985. The east and west gables each have three bays with round-headed windows in the attic. The skewed gables originally had ball finials, which are now missing. The building has a slate roof and a fire-break gable at the midpoint. The northern elevation was once adjacent to dyeing sheds, which are now harled. The windows, originally 10-pane top-hoppers, have been radically altered.
Inside, the building originally had wooden flooring supported by cast-iron columns.
