Craigruach, 15 Norrie Street, Broughty Ferry, Dundee

Craigruach is a villa located at 15 Norrie Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, designed by Patrick H Thoms in 1899. This L-plan building features two storeys, a single storey, and an attic. It is constructed from pink bull-faced snecked rubble with ashlar dressings, while the service wing is made of sandstone rubble. The roof is covered with grey-green slate and topped with terracotta ridge tiles.

The villa has a base and eaves course, and the windows are primarily sash and case, with single panes in the lower sashes and six panes in the upper sashes. The canted and stair windows include transoms and mullions, and there are segmental dormerheads with ashlar coped skews and skewputts on the west side, as well as gable dormerheads with kneelers on the south side. The projecting southwest corner tower features a shallow ogival roof. Decorative cast-iron rainwater goods, including brackets and bulbous hoppers, are present, along with moulded wallhead and ridge stacks topped with squat terracotta cans. The roofs are pyramidal and piended.

On the south elevation, there are four bays. The central bay features a wide elliptically-arched, roll-moulded opening leading to a recessed porch, with projecting steps flanked by low walls. A timber balustrade with a seat is located to the right, and the porch has an encaustic tile floor and a five-panelled door with chamfered margins. Above, a tripartite stair window with rectangular leaded lights is found on the first floor, with a gablehead above. The right gablehead bay includes bipartite windows on both the ground and first floors. The left bay has two windows on the ground floor, a coped parapet, and a blank first floor. The far left bay features a canted window on the left return, which is corbelled to the round corner tower that has four plate-glass windows on the first floor.

The west elevation consists of three bays, with bipartite windows at the ground and first floors in the centre. There is a canted window at the right, corbelled to the round corner tower on the first floor, and a canted window at the left with a coped mannered parapet, along with a tripartite window on the first floor.

The east elevation has a projecting service wing on the right, which includes a door and a flat-roofed dormer in the left return elevation. Windows are present at the ground and first floors on the right side of the main house.

The property is also accompanied by two round-section, coped gatepiers made of bull-faced coursers on the south side, which are connected to a coped wall on the left and right, adorned with railings.
