Description
29-31 Murraygate in Dundee is a commercial building dating from around 1830, with a doorpiece designed by Ireland and MacLaren in 1887. It is a three-storey, seven-bay structure featuring classical detailing. The ground floor has a modern shopfront, while the original cornice, cill course on the first floor, and band course on the second floor are still intact. The building has a corniced wallhead, with architraved and corniced windows on the first floor. The windows feature sash and case glazing, mostly single-pane on the bottom and two-pane on the top, while the second floor has architraved windows with two-pane sash and case glazing. The roof is adorned with corniced stacks.
The front elevation includes a stilted, basket-arch doorcase on the left, which is flanked by nook shafts and mannered pilasters. To the right is the shopfront, and there are seven windows on both the first and second floors. The interior has not been seen.
