Description

9 King Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, is a late 18th century, two-storey, six-bay semi-detached house built in a classical style. It features a mid-19th century staircase addition at the rear.

The building is constructed from rubble masonry, with some stugged long and short dressings, and has a slate roof with brick and rendered stacks. The ground floor has 12-pane sash and case windows, while the first floor features harmonious uPVC windows, all with painted margins. The design includes margined angles and skew gables with skewputts.

On the west elevation, 18 Westfield Road is located to the left, showcasing a central painted Doric pilastered doorpiece with a moulded cornice and a multi-pane transom-light, flanked by windows. There are three windows on the first floor. To the left, there is an early single-storey addition with a piended roof.

To the right is 9 King Street, which has three windows on the ground floor, with the center window slightly wider due to a modification from a door. The first floor also has three windows, maintaining a symmetrical appearance.

The south gable features a window on the first floor and another on the first floor return to the right. The staircase addition is set back on the right and includes a corniced doorpiece with a transom-light (modern glazing), a blocked window on the first floor, and a piended roof with a smaller skew gable and stack to the right.

The east elevation shows the staircase addition on the left, which has a long stair window with uPVC glazing. There is a single-storey lean-to addition at the re-entrant, with two windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor, creating an asymmetrical layout.

A low rubble boundary wall runs along the west elevation, with a similar wall on the south side next to the staircase addition.
