86 Broughty Ferry Road, Dundee

This building, located at 82-84 Broughty Ferry Road in Dundee, was designed by Charles and Leslie Ower in 1890. It is an unusual four-storey tenement with a flat roof, constructed from coursed rubble with red ashlar details that reflect the style of a Florentine Gothic palazzo.

The south elevation features five bays with single and bipartite windows. There are two doors leading to nook-shafted staircases, one of which is dated, while the other bears the cypher H G, representing Henry Gourlay. The ground floor is still in its original course, and the third floor showcases a Gothic blind arcade in flat relief. The corner shop front includes a triple light bowed window above, and the corner parapet is adorned with quatrefoil details. The west elevation also has single and bipartite windows, while the rear is simply built from plain rubble.

The flat concrete roof is fronted by ornate wrought-iron railings, which feature a glazing pattern, although some of these have been modernized.
