Description
The Priest's House at Ss Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Dundee was designed by Sir Reginald Fairlie and completed in 1929. This simple Romanesque church is constructed of red brick, featuring darker brick voussoirs and minimal stone dressings on the south front. The church has an arched doorway set within a cavetto chamfer, with a brick tympanum and single lights on either side, a lozenge, a triplet of round-arched windows, and an empty niche above. A cross finial adorns the building, which includes buttresses and short flanking towers topped with perforated pattern parapets. There is a side porch on the east with a catslide roof. The church has seven bays on the sides with round-arched lights and pilaster buttresses, a lower chancel with three-light side chapels, and a five-light clerestory. The north gable is blank, and the windows feature cathedral glazing. The roof is pantiled, and there is a short round-arched link to the Presbytery, which has a three-light window and a door, topped with a slate roof.
Inside the church, there is a flat timber-panelled ceiling supported by octagonal columns, creating a wide nave and narrow aisles. The Stations of the Cross, possibly by Meredith Williams, are displayed within. A wide arch leads to a simple brick sanctuary, which has arcaded sides and a curved timber ceiling.
The Presbytery is a two-storey, six-bay house with an arched doorway in the third bay and 12-pane sash and case windows.
