Description
The Guthrie Mausoleum, located in the Roodyards Burial-Ground on Broughty Ferry Road in Dundee, is a late 18th century structure made of ashlar stone. It has a cube shape with a keystoned recessed arch on each face, which is flanked by twin Ionic angle pilasters. The western arch was likely once open, possibly featuring a wrought-iron gate and tympanum, but it is now blocked and covered with cement render. The mausoleum is topped with a cornice, a blocking course, and a dome that has a stepped base. Some of the architectural details have become somewhat eroded over time. Surrounding the mausoleum is a rubble-walled enclosure with square gatepiers and modern gates.
