Description
The Old Manse, located at 44 Mains Street in Lockerbie, is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay manse. It is constructed of whin rubble with red ashlar dressings, which are now mostly painted. The entrance features a recessed panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, set within a pilastered doorpiece. The ground floor windows are corniced and architraved, while the first-floor windows have plain margins. Most of the glazing is modern, although two windows have plate glass sashes. The building has an eaves and lintel band, with skews and end stacks, and is roofed with graded slates. There are rear wings attached to the main structure.
The boundary with Mains Street is marked by low walls topped with ashlar coping, modern iron railings, and simple gatepiers. A milestone is incorporated at the southwest corner. To the north, there is a walled court and a detached outbuilding, which serves as a coach house with four square-headed openings facing the house.
