Description
The stables and garage at Balgray House date from the earlier to mid-19th century and form a near symmetrical stable block. Access to the courtyard is provided between two cottages located to the south. A garage, dated 1929, has been inserted centrally in the north range. The building is single storey with attics and lofts, constructed from coursed, bull-faced red rubble with ashlar dressings and margins. It features sash windows throughout, mostly with a 12-pane glazing pattern, and all roofs are covered with graded slates.
Each cottage has a gabled porch facing south, with shouldered doorways, and gabled dormers in the bays flanking the porches. The cottage nearest to the west has four bays. The square-headed openings lead to the courtyard, while the east range includes a low alcove that likely originally housed a trough, along with two louvred vents beneath gabled roofs. The garage is equipped with three sliding timber and glazed doors, a large rooflight above, and an axial ventilator.
