Description
The Walled Garden at Balgray House is primarily from the early 19th century, although it is not a single construction. It is a roughly quadrangular area surrounded by walls made of rubble with ashlar coping. Most of these walls are lined with brick and feature ceramic tile banding. The eastern wall functions as a road embankment, while the low southern wall is topped with cast-iron railings and includes the main gate. There is also a pedestrian gate that has a pedimented gateway, which dates to around 1885. At the northern end, there is a slate-roofed lean-to that houses a boiler room and potting sheds. The garden also features asymmetrical glass house ranges with cast-iron framing made by Simpson & Farmer from Glasgow.
