Description
The church is a building from 1843, formerly a Free Church, now a roofless shell partially demolished around 1970. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings in a Gothic style. The long north wall remains largely intact to eaves level, featuring five buttressed bays. A porch is present at the west gable, and a south transept is located near the east end. The south gable also survives, topped with a gabled bellcote. The church was initially opened in December 1843 as Glencairn Free Church, later becoming Glencairn and Moniaive U.F. Church, and ultimately Moniaive Church of Scotland. A bust of the Reverend Patrick Borrowman, sculpted by James Paterson, is now located in the Parish Church. Details regarding the church are documented in Ewing’s Annals of the Free Church and Corrie’s The Annals of Glencairn.
