Description

Corsemalzie House is a country house dating to the mid to later 19th century, built after 1848. It is a two-story building with a further two-story and attic section, constructed of whin rubble with dressed granite margins. Some windows have dressed granite hoodmolds, while canted windows feature red sandstone chamfered margins, granite bases, and half-piend roofs. Granite quoins are present throughout.

The south (principal) elevation has four bays, with two bays to the right being two-story and attic, and a bay advanced to the outer left. A gabled bay is slightly advanced to the left of the center, and a canted porch projects at ground floor, forming a re-entrant angle with the bay to the outer left. The porch has a fanlit, panelled door facing south, with narrow windows in the flanking angles and a window to the east return. A cream sandstone ashlar corniced and coped parapet sits above the doorway, incorporating a heraldic panel; a hoodmoulded window is located at the first floor. The gabled bay to the outer left has a canted window at ground floor and a hoodmoulded window at first floor. The regular fenestration of the bays to the right is broken by a door to the left and a hoodmoulded window to the right at ground floor in the central bay, and a hoodmoulded bipartite window at ground floor in the bay to the outer right; dormerheaded windows are found at the attic floor. A short, coped section of wall is adjoined to the right, with stepped coping over a central gateway.

The west elevation is five bays wide, featuring a hoodmoulded doorway with a fanlight and glazed door at the center, above which is a red sandstone ashlar semi-circular panel displaying a heraldic shield and motto. A dormerheaded window is recessed at the first floor. Canted windows are on the ground floor, and hoodmoulded windows are located at the first floor in the gabled bays to the left and right of the center. The bay to the outer right has a hoodmoulded window at ground floor and a dormerheaded window at the first floor. The advanced bay to the outer left has a hoodmoulded tripartite window at the ground floor and a hoodmoulded bipartite window at the first floor.

The north elevation displays a hoodmoulded doorway with a fanlight and glazed door to the right and a hoodmoulded window to the left at ground floor. A hoodmoulded window is centrally located at the first floor, below a central gable, and a later door with a fire escape stairway is positioned to the left. A central bay features an iron-finalled swept pyramidal roof and a tall canted window. To the left are three windows at ground floor and a small projection, alongside a window at the first floor.

The east elevation has a gable to the left, featuring a door to the left of the center at ground floor and a window at the center at the first floor. A pebble-dashed bay is recessed at the center, with a fire escape door at the first floor. A gable to the right is accompanied by a single-story range of outbuildings adjoined at ground floor with several doors to the south return.

The interior includes coped ashlar chimneypieces in the hall and a heraldic panel inserted above a modern fireplace in the bar. Most windows have 12-pane glazing set within timber ash and case windows. Red sandstone coped skews are present on the gables and dormerheads, with red sandstone finials topping the dormerheads. Coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks are in place, along with small grey slates.
