Description

Kirtle New Bridge, built by Thomas Telford around 1820, is a road bridge that spans the former line of the A74 over Kirtle Water. It features a single segmental arch approximately 17 meters in length. The bridge was widened, and the north and south parapets were rebuilt in 1954, which is noted on the structure. The original bridge is made of red ashlar and includes rusticated voussoirs, while the modern arch is constructed of reinforced concrete and clad in ashlar. The bridge has a straight roadway and parapets, with the south parapet curving at the approaches.
